Consultation has concluded

The Hank Marvin Market consultation to assess the market's impact on key stakeholders and the reserve closed on 30 October. We received 556 survey responses during the consultation. A quick summary of the information collected can be found below:

  • 49.1% people surveyed reside in postcode area 3183 followed by 24% in 3182 and 12.1% in 3181.
  • People were attracted to the market due the food stalls and fresh produce.
  • 51.8% travel to the market by foot and 38% by car.
  • 92.3% felt that the Hank Marvin Market did not impact the reserve and the 7.7% of people that felt the reserve was impacted commented on the impact to the grass, trees and waste.
  • 53.7% attend other markets in the local area with 29.2% attending South Melbourne Market.
  • 97.5% of people supported the market to continue at Alma Park Reserve.

Next steps

The information collected from this survey, site visits, stakeholder feedback and another on-site survey will form the basis of the review of the Hank Marvin Market. Which is scheduled to be presented at the 2 February Council meeting.
