Our transport networks shape the city and its identity. Council recognises that our street network is an integral part of how we experience the city and can significantly impact on people’s health, wellbeing and lifestyles. As a result we are creating a strategy which addresses the challenges of how we connect and get around in a growing Port Phillip.

Same space, more people

Our City is growing and future projections indicate we will be faced with a 20% increase in road congestion by 2027 if no change is made. This will contribute to increased competition for on-street carparks, demand for spaces for people to socialise, exchange goods and hold events.

With more and more people sharing our streets and our spaces we are faced with the challenge of:

How do we fit more people into the same amount of space without impacting the things we value most?

FUTURE STREETS: An Integrated Transport Strategy

The Integrated Transport Strategy will establish a strategic direction for all current and future uses for our street network across:

  1. Travel choices: walking, bike riding, public transport, private car/ motorbike
  2. Car parking: on and off street, public and development controls, enforcement and technology
  3. Freight and goods servicing: large and small truck movements, loading access, emergency and waste services
  4. Commercial activity: outdoor dining, goods on footpath, pop-up events
  5. People spaces: events, street furniture, public gathering
  6. Green infrastructure: trees and planting, water treatments, vertical planting, biodiversity

Once created, the strategy will provide Council with an overarching framework to inform how we will invest in movement and place through planning for the City of Port Phillip over the next 10 years.

What type of city do you want?

Everyday 200,000 people live, work and play in the City of Port Phillip and this number is growing. We need your feedback to help shape the strategy.

This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

The survey closes at 5:00 pm on Monday 4 December 2017.
