The draft concept design was displayed for community comment in March/April 2018. The feedback we received was independently reviewed by JTA Australia and summarised into the following themes:

Access to the reserve

We heard:

  • Pathway was too big for a small park
  • The path biscets and reduces the open green space for ball games and picnics
  • Path will encourage bike riders which poses a safety issue
  • Reduced size of concrete path by not continuing it through the main axis of the park and thus opening up the grass area
  • Included a picnic table setting

Playground design and materials

  • Design was not considered interesting or 'state of the art' and did not offer imaginative play, stimulation and variety
  • Careful consideration has been given to the play equipment pieces to provide a variety of play experiences in this small playground. The equipment provides opportunity to swing, climb, rock as well as explore and create with nature based 'free play' and 'imaginative play'

Seating

We heard:

  • Seats with back and support are preferred
  • Wood is more comfortable than concrete
  • Three traditional park seats with armrests and back rests as well as one picnic setting have been included in the upgrade design
  • The concrete seating walls have timber top seating sections

Shade

We heard:

  • Imperative the play space had a shade sail or similar to protect from sun and light rain
  • Council will investigate the cost to include a shade sail over the playground area

final concept design for the Park.
