Project background

Between 17 November and 21 December 2025, Council engaged with the local community to gather ideas and feedback on planned upgrades to the play space at Clarke Reserve, Elwood.

The engagement aimed to understand what matters most to community members and what they would like to see in an upgraded play space.

What we did

We used a mix of engagement methods to gather feedback from the local community, including:

  • an online and hard‑copy survey
  • pop-up conversations at the Clarke Reserve play space, St Kilda Botanical Gardens play space and the Elwood Community Market
  • contacting local properties, installing signage at the play space and promoting the opportunity for feedback via Council newsletters, social media and stakeholder networks.

We asked community members what they like about the current play space and what they would like to see in an upgrade.

Who did we hear from?

What did we hear?

The most common things we heard across all feedback were:

  • People love the neighbourhood location of Clarke Reserve, the community connections and the easy access.
  • The most common types of equipment people said they liked or would like to see added were:
    • swings
    • climbing
    • slide
    • monkey bars
    • jumping
    • flying fox.
  • Most people would like to see a fence or other barrier added.

What happens next?

The community ideas we heard have helped us develop a draft concept plan for the upgraded play space. We're now inviting you to view the draft and share your feedback on it.
