Cobden Street
The Cobden Street improvement project is part of a broader plan to improve public spaces across the Domain Precinct. The aim is to create greener, safer and more welcoming places where people can walk, relax and connect with others.
It is identified in Council’s Public Space Strategy as an opportunity to create a new gathering place for the community, with a shared zone on Kings Place and Millers Lane and a new plaza with landscaping, tree planting, bike parking and seating.
Previous community feedback showed support for more trees and landscaping, better pedestrian connections and more public spaces. We also heard concerns about proposed changes to traffic, particularly concerns about making Kings Place one-way.
We have considered this feedback in developing three updated options below

What you can influence on this project
Your feedback will shape decisions about:
- Which option is progressed
- What features are included, including traffic calming measures, raised crossings, kerb outstands, the extent of greening, bike parking and seating.
- Whether Millers Lane becomes a shared zone or not (as shown in Options 1 and 2).
-
What you can't influence on this project
Parts of the project not able to be influenced include:
- Project timeline
- Project budget
- Site location
- Location and size of the new pocket park (Option 2)
- General traffic configuration
What happens next?
This consultation is an opportunity to tell us which option you prefer and what you think could be improved.
All three options are still at the concept stage, and each concept design option is subject to detailed design and authority approvals. The final design may change following community feedback, further design work, investigations into underground services and required approvals.
