Works include replacing the existing lights in the footpath between Grey and Acland streets (only south side of street) and additional lighting in Jackson Street.

New palms, planting, lighting, feature paving and seating will be welcome additions to selected locations in the street.

Proposed works

  1. Greening the currently disused section road by constructing a landscaped central median, which received a high level of support. This area will continue to accommodate mature palms, planting, and feature lighting. It will also capture stormwater runoff to irrigate the new garden beds. Pedestrian refuges will be accommodated in select locations.
  2. In response to suggestions a meeting point at the intersection of Grey and Fitzroy streets, work at this location will continue to include new artwork that will be visible from trams and traffic coming to St Kilda from the City. Work will deliver low level planting, seating, bike racks and ambient lighting to improve perceptions of safety and security.
  3. A location at Jackson Street for performers was suggested. Further design work will accommodate this through an informal deck and single seating, rather than the bench style previously suggested in this location. A raised priority crossing over Jackson Street will improve pedestrian safety. Palms and low level planting within rain gardens will improve the quality of stormwater runoff into Port Phillip Bay. New artwork will also feature in this location.
