The following are key features of the Fitzroy Street upgrades with artists impressions.

Central garden beds (central median greening)

We would like to put a central garden bed in the median strip of Fitzroy Street that will feature flowering succulent plants and mature palm trees that are uplit at night.

The median will also have crossing points for pedestrians.

The central median greening will cover currently available land with the removal of the existing 133 tram stop.

Jackson Street Intersection

Curb extensions at Jackson and Grey Street intersections will create feature garden beds that also perform water treatment.

Two new seating areas will also be introduced at Jackson and Grey Street to create new spaces where people can meet and enjoy, both day and night. The seating will combine the bluestone crazy paving from Cleve Plaza with the popular seating design from the foreshore.

Other features include:

  • Raised pedestrian priority crossing over Jackson Street
  • Palms with up-lighting
  • New garden beds in curbs
  • Feature paving to match Cleve Plaza
  • Foreshore style seating with ambient lighting
  • Public art such as a sculpture, lighting or street art

Grey Street Intersection

The feature garden beds and new seating in Grey Street will create areas where people can gather,  clear meeting points for visitors and performance spaces.

Other features include:

  • Palms with up-lighting
  • New garden beds
  • Bike racks
  • Feature paving to match Cleve Plaza
  • Foreshore style seating with ambient lighting
  • Public art such as a sculpture, lighting or street art

Safety and lighting

Uplighting trees and feature lighting under bench seats and public art will be combined with improved pedestrian lighting in sections of the street.

Pedestrian scale lighting will improve perceptions of safety whilst enhancing the amenity in this busy night precinct.
