Project background

We prepared a draft Urban Forest Precinct Plan (UFPP) for Albert Park and Middle Park to guide and prioritise future tree planting and biodiversity projects. The plan aims to help create a healthy, diverse, and connected urban forest across these neighbourhoods and supports the delivery of Council’s Urban Forest Strategy 2024-2040.

We asked for feedback on the draft UFPP from Monday 23 February until Sunday 22 March 2026.

What did we ask?

This project sought community feedback on the draft plan to understand what is working well, what could be improved, and where priorities should lie. This feedback will help inform revisions to the draft Urban Forest Precinct Plan before it is presented to Council for consideration and endorsement.

Who did we hear from?

What did we hear and how did it affect the outcome?

We heard that there was:

  • Support for more greenery and shade
  • Preference for locally native plants
  • Focus on practical, well-designed outcomes
  • Desire for fair investment across all neighbourhoods and broader greening efforts.

Following community engagement, we’ll make some small updates to the Plan. This includes better aligning it with the Foreshore Management Plan, and strengthening how greening works alongside road, footpath and park upgrades, as well as safety improvements.

What happens next?

We'll make the updated Urban Forest Precinct Plan for Albert Park and Middle Park publicly available. It will be presented to councillors for adoption at a Council Meeting on Wednesday 17 June 2026.
