Chats in South Melbourne

The team visited South Melbourne and had lots of great discussions with community members outside South Melbourne Central on Wednesday 15 November.

The morning was bright and clear, and we heard from around 40 people regarding their hopes for the future of the South Melbourne Market as well as how we can better support older people in Port Phillip.

We heard that older people want to better understand how they can link into existing services and local social groups. We heard that there's a preference for hardcopy information and a central location to find available activities.

We also heard from visitors to the Market about their concerns with the current conflicts between pedestrians and cars. There was a solid level of support for more pedestrian-friendly areas on each of the street frontages of the market, with many preference green space and the addition of seating.

Councillors Sirakoff, Martin, Cunsolo and Crawford also attended to meet with our community.

Next stop - Ripponlea on Friday 17 November!
