Housing is a complex and evolving issue, and community input is an important part of shaping how we plan for the future. Through this consultation, we sought to understand current housing needs, changing priorities and emerging opportunities to support a diverse range of housing options across our municipality.
We heard valuable feedback about:
- The types of housing people need and value at different stages of life.
- How housing priorities may change over time.
- Ideas for new and diverse housing options.
- What is important to our community when planning for future housing.
Your feedback will help inform future planning and decision-making as we continue to explore housing opportunities that align with community needs and aspirations.

August Neighbourhood Conversations: Now Complete
We recently held Neighbourhood Conversations to talk with residents about their ideas for housing. Thank you to everyone who took part and contributed their valuable insights.
The Victorian Government has set a housing target of 55,000 new homes for Port Phillip by 2051. Careful, locally informed planning will help ensure Port Phillip plan for new homes and ensure it remains a great place to live for everyone.
The City of Port Phillip Housing Strategy was adopted in 2024. As we begin planning for future housing needs, we want to understand whether the housing principles in the strategy still reflect what matters most to our community.
