Housing is a complex and fast changing issue. We want to ensure our future planning for housing reflects what matters most to our community.
With many national and state related reforms unfolding in the background, we’re checking in to understand how housing needs may have changed and what is important to our community today.
There are no change proposals at this stage, we want to understand what's important to our community and how housing needs have evolved.
We're interested in hearing about:
- the types of housing you and your family need and value across different life stages.
- whether your housing priorities have changed since we last spoke to you
- Ideas for new types of housing.
We invite you to provide your feedback by Sunday 6 September 2026. Your input will help guide more detailed planning to deliver diverse, well-located, and well-designed housing that aligns with community priorities.
On this page you can:
The Victorian Government has set a housing target of 55,000 new homes for Port Phillip by 2051. Careful, locally informed planning will help ensure Port Phillip plan for new homes and ensure it remains a great place to live for everyone.
The City of Port Phillip Housing Strategy was adopted in 2024. As we begin planning for future housing needs, we want to understand whether the housing principles in the strategy still reflect what matters most to our community.
The video below explains what Council is doing to plan for new homes.
