The People’s Choice Award gives you the opportunity to recognise a business within the City of Port Phillip that has demonstrated excellent customer service and made a positive contribution to the local economy.

Those who nominated will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win one of three overnight stays in an Eden Escapes Superior Room (with buffet breakfast for two).

Prize winners will be selected and announced at the Awards Gala event on Wednesday 22 October 2014 at the Bayview Eden, Melbourne along with the successful People’s Choice – Service Excellence businesses.

Who can I nominate?

One business from each of the following neighbourhoods will be judged as the People’s Choice – Service Excellence winner. :

If you would like to nominate more than one business please complete a new form for each. Each nomination will be entered into the prize draw.

Use the online form to nominate your favourite business for the People's Choice Award - Service Excellence Award and tell us (in less than 100 words) why they should win.

Think about:

  • What has the business done that demonstrates their service excellence?
  • What makes your experience of the business a positive one?
  • Do you have examples of the businesses sense of business passion and pride?
  • Do you have examples of how the business provides a positive community service?

This page provides details about the terms and conditions and judging process for the People's Choice - Service Excellence Awards 2014.

  1. Instructions on how to enter and other details contained within promotional advertisements for the People’s Choice – Service Excellence Award Competition form part of these terms and conditions of entry. Participation in the Competition is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  2. Entry is open to permanent residents of Victoria. A business or its representative, or a family member cannot self nominate for this award.
  3. Entrants under the age of 18 years must obtain their parent's or legal guardian's prior consent to enter the Competition. If the winner is under 18 years of age, the prize will be awarded to the winner's parent or legal guardian.
  4. The terms and conditions of the Competition are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia.
  5. The Competition is being run by Port Phillip City Council, St Kilda Town Hall, Cnr Carlisle Street & Brighton Rd, St Kilda, 3182 (City of Port Phillip).
  6. Employees of City of Port Phillip and their immediate families are able to nominate a business but are not eligible to enter the draw.
  7. The Competition commences on 3rd April 2014 and will close at 5.00pm on 4th July 2014 (Competition Period).
  8. To enter the Competition, entrants must during the Competition Period: complete the on-line nomination form. Entry is free.
  9. Entries must not be offensive, libellous or defamatory in anyway.
  10. Multiple entries are permitted and each will be included in the prize draw. Only one entry per person/entrant for each business is permitted.
  11. All entries become the property of City of Port Phillip.
  12. If an entrant's contact details change during the Competition Period, it is the entrant's responsibility to notify City of Port Phillip in writing.
  13. City of Port Phillip accepts no responsibility for late entries or entries not received for any reason.
  14. There will be one (1) draw at 10am 22nd October 2014 at 99 Carlisle Street, St Kilda. The draw will be by random selection drawn from a hat.
  15. City of Port Phillip’s decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  16. There will be 3 prizes. Each prize is an overnight stay in an Eden Escapes Superior Room (with buffet breakfast for two).
  17. Each prize winner will be contacted within seven days by phone or email using the information provided by the entrant in the entry form.
  18. City of Port Phillip will use all reasonable efforts to contact an entrant selected as a winner as set out above but accepts no responsibility if an entrant cannot be contacted. An entrant who cannot be contacted by 31st October 2014 will forfeit the prize in its entirety.
  19. The prize is not redeemable for cash or an alternative prize and not transferable.
  20. The value of the prize is accurate as at the commencement of the Competition. City of Port Phillip accepts no responsibility for any change in the prize value after this date.
  21. The prize is subject to the terms and conditions of the relevant prize supplier/s (including without limitation any terms and conditions of any voucher provider). The winner is solely responsible for complying with such terms and conditions (including without limitation any voucher expiry dates) and is liable for any outcome associated with failure to comply with them.
  22. City of Port Phillip is not liable for any loss, damage or injury suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) in connection with the prize except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
  23. City of Port Phillip reserves the right to disqualify any entries in its absolute discretion.
  24. If the Competition is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond City of Port Phillip's reasonable control, City of Port Phillip reserves the right in its sole discretion to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the Competition.
  25. Personal information provided by an entrant to City of Port Phillip for the purpose of entering the Competition will be collected, used and disclosed for the purpose of conducting, administering and publicising the Competition, which may include disclosure to third parties such as agents, contractors, prize suppliers and Australian regulatory authorities. City of Port Phillip will handle all personal information in accordance with City of Port Phillip's Privacy Statement(External link). Entrants can request access to the personal information held about them by contacting City of Port Phillip.
  26. All entrants who are selected as winners agree to take part in publicity for the Competition as reasonably requested by City of Port Phillip, and agree to City of Port Phillip using their personal information and entries in any media worldwide, including on City of Port Phillip's website and in its publications.
  27. It is a condition of accepting the prize that the winner must comply with all the conditions of use of the prize and the prize supplier's requirements.

Judging Process - People’s Choice Service Excellence Awards

  1. A shortlist of businesses for each neighbourhood will be determined by an independent panel of judges based on the following criteria: The 100 words or less description provided by the nominator - weight 80% - The number of independent nominations - weight 20%
  2. Once the shortlist is determined, each finalist business will be notified and asked if they accept the nomination.
  3. The City of Port Phillip reserves the right to declare any entry ineligible if, in the reasonable opinion of the Council, the entrant is unable to represent or promote the Awards in a satisfactory manner.
  4. Finalists must disclose any issues that may compromise the integrity of the City of Port Phillip or Sponsors of the Awards. These issues may include past, pending or anticipated actions which have resulted or would result in the businesses’ insolvency or conviction of a serious offence, business involved in a serious dispute with the CoPP, and/or a failure to apply Commonwealth / State government legislation in relation to business practices (eg. fair trading, OH&S, employment conditions, etc).
  5. The winning businesses will be named the People’s Choice - Service Excellence award winner will be announced at the 2014 CitiPower Port Phillip Business Excellence Awards Gala event on Thursday 22 October at Bayview Eden, Melbourne.
