Dog waste bag trial

The City of Port Phillip has approved a new Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026 to 2029 (DAMP), which sets out how we care for pets and manage their impact on our community and environment. One key issue raised during engagement on the draft DAMP was better access to dog waste bags.

What are we doing?

In response to many asking for more dog waste bag dispensers in parks and public areas, Council is launching a 14-month trial of dog waste bag dispensers at up to 12 locations across the municipality (including vets).

Here's what’s happening:

  • Locations chosen with help from community feedback
  • Council will review the results and report back after the trial

Why location matters

We want to make sure dispensers are placed where they’re needed most. Council Officers used data to identify good locations for dispensers, we’re now asking key stakeholders to confirm if we've got it right.

How you can help

We’re using a targeted engagement approach through this private Have Your Say page, inviting a balanced panel of dog owners and non-dog owners from each suburb to share their views on the proposed locations.

Did we sniff out the best spots for dog waste bags?
