About this project

What is happening with the Dickens Street Pop-up Park?

About the project

Balaclava/St Kilda East has the lowest amount of open space of all neighbourhoods in our City.

Since March 2023, a temporary, partial street closure of Dickens Street between Brighton Road and Chapel Street was set up to trial additional public space. A temporary pop-up park has been located in Dickens Street since then, and includes:

  • road murals
  • seating
  • greenscaping with plants and planters
  • a basketball hoop
  • bicycle parking.

Currently, there is no plan or budget to make the Dickens Street Pop-up Park permanent.

We would like to hear from our community about their usage of and support for the pop-up park, which will help to inform future decision-making around whether Dickens Street remains as a park in future.
