People who read a SCAN promotion are seeking an answer to the question "What can I do to make a difference?" These people need to join a group. Groups involved with SCAN activities are seeking people who are asking the question "What can I do to make a difference?" These groups need more people to become active members. Council's role is to get the people, and the groups, together. Council needs to identify, and promote, ALL groups that are attempting to make change in our community. Annie Leonard of "The Story of Stuff" advises people to "Pick an issue that excites you. Better bike lanes? Ending government subsidies for the super-profitable coal industry? Figuring out how to reduce packaging? Investments in clean energy? Growing your own food? Reducing the rubbish on our beaches? Caring for local wildlife? It's always easier – and more fun – to do things with others. So once you have figured out what you want to work on, join with a friend or call an organisation working on the issue." Council's role is to be an honest broker, this starts with creating a list of groups on a webpage. Without a proper list how is anybody going to find out about a group that might interest them? This page http://www.enviroehub.com.au/get-involved/join-a-community-group is a start. Council needs to add ALL groups in the community, NOT just those involved in sustainability. Someone maybe interested in joining a Book Group but end up going to Transition Port Phillip Film Nights at the EcoCentre as it is the discussions they really enjoy. It is discussions that excite them. The fact that Transition Port Phillip members talk about "green subjects" does not matter to them. There are many more things I can suggest, and even volunteer to do for you, if you are interested. However this is enough for now. You know how to contact me.

Useful catch-up with a lot of groups and involved people. Needs to repeated every year or two. There seem to be four or five streams of activity where different groups across PP have similar interests, and some forum for closer interaction might be useful, such as a topic specific bulliten board or Blog. Topics I identified were: * Energy -- clean production * Energy -- domestic conservation * Community gardening * Public area support = "Friends of" * There are probably others. Over to you, Julian Geoff Parr-Smith

Save live music. Make it easier for venues to have and operate with live music. After all we are renowned for it here! Bands come from across the globe to play in St Kilda.

It was really heartening to see lots of people working away, in different ways, with shared concerns. I like the idea that we plant trees everywhere, metaphorical ones too, so that things are sprouting, happening all over the place. Is there a Council list of groups and contacts? Ann Birrell, Port Phillip Greens.

Hi Ann, and thanks for coming along to the second SCAN function. The list of groups and contacts can be found on the enviroEhub website: http://www.enviroehub.com.au/get-involved/join-a-community-group. For presentations from the groups that presented at the second SCAN meeting see the KEY SCAN DOCUMENT section of the Have Your Say forum. We invite all community groups and their representatives to submit their details or presentations to be uploaded to the Have Your Say page. We will also upload them to enviroEhub website.

There should be a promotional lead up via a platform of rich local talents. Short & sweet.

It was great to hear about community groups that I didn't know about and that I can volunteer for.

This is a very good experience to come along to see how many things are happening in CoPP. The content demonstrates that community awareness and evolvement is increasing. It is to be promoted to everybody who pays the rates in CoPP. Graeme Godsman, Addison St, Elwood
