Help shape the revitalisation of the South Melbourne Industrial Precinct.

The City of Port Phillip is developing a plan to guide future land use directions of the South Melbourne Industrial Precinct. Council has identified the South Melbourne Industrial Precinct as a major renewal opportunity within City of Port Phillip and the inner Melbourne region.

Council is looking at how to transition the area from primarily industrial land uses to a broader mix of land uses (potentially including business and housing) to take advantage of the precinct's inner city location.

The plan Council is developing will guide land use, the design of new buildings and public spaces, and access and movement. (The plan will also consider any necessary changes to the land use zoning and other planning controls to facilitate the renewal of the area.)

In May, Council undertook consultation with property owners and businesses in the precinct as well as adjoining residents. A summary of the feedback from consultation will be available shortly.

The feedback from the consultation will be used to develop a draft structure plan which will be consulted on later in 2011.

For more information on the consultation or the structure plan, please contact Leonie Kirkwood, Senior Strategic Planner on 9209 6344 or Eli Greig, Strategic Planner on 9209 6130.

What major issues need to be addressed in this area?

How can we make the precinct a place to live and work?

For example should it be primarily business, residential or a mix?
