This consultation is now closed. Many thanks for your feedback.

South Melbourne Market is one of Melbourne’s food, retail and tourism icons. With the market’s success and continued growth, the surrounding streets and footpaths are becoming more congested. This often makes it difficult to move around, whether you are walking, cycling or in a car.

We’d like to hear from you to understand what issues and opportunities might impact the way you get to and move around the market area.

Share your thoughts by completing the survey before 5 April.

Your feedback will inform a traffic study that will:

  • Assess the impact of local traffic congestion on the current and future success of the Market.
  • Determine how to best manage access and movement for walking, cycling, public transport and driving to and around the market.

Next steps

This consultation will occur alongside data gathering surveys of:

  • Traffic, parking and pedestrian movements
  • Public life (what people do, feel and experience in the areas).

Together the consultation feedback, analysis of technical survey data and other information will be used to inform the development of a technical report for council.

The technical report is intended for internal use, and will be used to assist in our planning and for the ongoing success of the South Melbourne Market and surrounds.
