This consultation has concluded.

As part of the City of Port Phillip’s commitment to redeveloping and maintaining sporting and recreation facilities, Council plans to upgrade the pavilion in Alma Park to create a multi-functional space for sports clubs and community groups. The upgraded pavilion will accommodate a wide range of current and emerging users and improve the public toilets available to the wider community and visitors to Alma Park.

Please see the proposed design plans and FAQ's for more information.

Background

A feasibility study was undertaken to assess potential locations for a new pavilion, ensuring it would comply with Football Federation Victoria building requirements and not impact on the heritage value of the park and surrounding environment. Council has consulted with local sports clubs and community groups to review their needs and this has helped to inform the features of the upgraded pavilion.

Location

The existing main pavilion and public toilet buildings will be demolished and replaced with new and improved facilities. Due to the significant heritage value of the surrounding trees in the area, the proposed design will retain the existing layout of two separate buildings. This will also ensure the layout of the park and access to the footpaths and nearby areas will not be affected.

Design

Alma Park - proposed design plan

  • The proposed upgraded pavilion will incorporate the following design elements:
  • Exterior design which will complement the natural environment
  • Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) features such as solar panels, recyclable materials, natural ventilation, natural light and rainwater tanks
  • Wider building layout in order to comply with Football Federation Victoria building requirements

Facilities

The proposed upgraded pavilion will provide the following facilities:

Building 1 (main pavilion, kitchen and change rooms)

  • two player change rooms, which can be converted into one larger space, two unisex toilets with shower facilities and one unisex accessible toilet with shower facility
  • kiosk / kitchen with servery
  • kitchen and bin storage

Building 2 (match officials’ storage and public toilets)

  • match official room with secure change room and accessible unisex toilet and shower
  • two secured storage rooms
  • one unisex accessible public toilet
  • two, male and two female public toilets

Construction

Construction of the new pavilion is subject to future budget allocations and is estimated to take approximately six months to build. During the construction period Council will provide alternative accommodation for sports clubs to ensure minimal.
