Proposed change: to discontinue funding

Saving to Council in 2020/21: $65,000

The current service is an accredited legal service, typically funded through a mix of state and federal government funding. Local government is not usually the primary funder, although some councils support their local community legal service by providing facilities for them. In this case, Council is the core funder of the South Port Community Legal Service, and we believe the service can seek more aligned funding through these other tiers of government.

Council will continue to support the service with access to Council-owned premises at Liardet Street. Users can also access the St Kilda Community Legal Service, which is not Council funded.

What do you think about Council discontinuing funding for South Port Community Legal Service?
