Following the online and onsite consultation about the upgrades to Centenary Reserve we have grouped the feedback received into some common themes and topics. This feedback is summarised on this page.

The feedback will inform concept designs for the upgrade of the reserve. These design proposals will be displayed on-site and online in February 2014 for you to provide feedback on.

Landscaping

You would like to see:

  • More raised communal herb/vegetable garden beds
  • More deciduous exotics and native evergreen trees
  • Upgraded landscaping with shrubs and indigenous species to support bird life.

People like:

  • Large eucalypt and fig trees
  • Grassed areas.

Play and Activity

Would like to see more:

  • Play equipment for toddler aged through to school aged children.
  • Natural elements such as rocks, plants and tree logs to encourage imaginative and creative play.
  • Monkey-bars
  • Swings
  • Climbing and balancing equipment.

Feedback for exercise equipment for older children and adults:

  • Simple tennis-ball games like four-square
  • Lawn-based sport such as soccer, cricket and football.

Reserve Facilities

Fencing was a popular topic with responses ranging from the removal of the existing fence to completely enclosing the reserve with fencing. The majority of responses asked for fencing only where necessary.

People also requested:

  • Barbecue facilities
  • Picnic tables
  • Seating
  • Drinking Water tap,
  • Bicycle hoops
  • Improved footpaths and lighting
  • Improved rubbish bin facilities to reduce the incidence of dumping.

Pedestrian and Cycle connections

Beyond Centenary Reserve, pedestrian and cycle safety was raised, particularly around the Evans Street /Swallow Street intersection as a route to and from Port Melbourne primary school.

Pedestrian crossing points in the surrounding areas were commented on as needing improvement.

Citypower sub-station building

Several respondents discussed the Citypower sub-station building that it is prone to graffiti and dumping of rubbish.

Improved integration of the sub-station within the reserve was requested, with a range of options including street art, a community-focused mural or green wall.
