How can Council respond to the challenge of growth in Fishermans Bend?

<p>With significant population growth planned for the Fishermans Bend Urban Renewal Area, Council needs to consider how best to fund new long life infrastructure (for example, open space and community facilities) to cater for this growth.</p> <p> Council currently has low levels of debt and is proposing to prudently use debt to forward fund many of the required community services. This is because it is frequently cheaper and easier to provide these early. The debt will be progressively repaid when contributions are received by developers as well as future residential and business ratepayers when they move into the precinct.</p> <p>An alternative approach is to fund the additional expenditure through higher rates from current ratepayers and to reprioritise other planned capital works (that is, not doing other significant projects Council has planned to do).</p> <p> Do you support Council's proposed approach in responding to the challenge of growth in Fishermans Bend?</p>

What do you think of Council putting in more funds for the Palais Theatre?

<p>Due to serious building issues, Council has recently committed to spending up to $7.5 million to keep the Palais Theatre open. While Council is also expecting a significant investment from State Government (who owns the building), in line with a pre-election commitment, indications are there will still be a funding gap between what has been committed and the cost of the required repairs.</p> <p>If there is a shortfall, are you supportive of Council putting in more fund (either through rates revenue and/or increase borrowings) into the Palais Theatre?</p> <p>Is there an alternative approach Council should consider?</p>

How can Council encourage the use of sustainable transport in our City?

<p>With increasing population growth within our City and very limited opportunities to expand the capacity of our local road network, traffic congestion is likely to increase. The most effective way of reducing congestion is for people to use public transport, ride bikes or walk rather than use their car. </p><p>There are a number of ways that Council can encourage the use of sustainable transport, including: <ul> <li>Investing in more bike lanes and improved pedestrian facilities, funded through a combination of rates, increased parking fees or borrowings</li> <li>Discouraging car use, as well as managing the demand for limited parking spaces, by increasing the cost of car parking</li> <li>Advocating to the State Government for the delivery of key public transport projects. </li> </ul></p> <p>Of the oportunities outlined above, which of these do you support?</p> <p>Are there any other options to encourage suitainable transport choices that Council should consider?</p>

What services are important to you and our community?

<p>A State and Federal Government focus on prudent budget management means funding for some community services and programs, including those delivered by Council such as Adventure Playgrounds, may be or have already been reduced or discontinued.</p><p>Additionally, the recently elected State Government has proposed limiting rate increases to the Consumer Price Index. As indicated in Council’s Strategic Resource Plan, rates are projected to increase by 4.75 per cent in 2015/16, which is higher than current projections in the Consumer Price Index.</p><p>Port Phillip Council delivers a wide range of services to its community. In light of these pressures, Council may need to review the extent to which we provide or subsidise some services.</p>
