Fulton Street

We plan to plant up to nine new street trees in Fulton Street, St Kilda East. Fulton Street is one of the hottest streets in the City of Port Phillip and has been identified in the St Kilda East and Balaclava Urban Forest Precinct Plan as a priority location for increased greening and shade.

Located at the northern edge of a high heat vulnerability area, Fulton Street provides an opportunity to increase biodiversity and strengthen habitat links between Alma Park and St Kilda Cemetery.

By increasing canopy cover, we aim to help cool the street, improve comfort for people walking, and enhance the visual amenity of the neighbourhood. Planting native tree species will also improve biodiversity and provide habitat for local fauna.

Raglan Street

We’ve heard from the community that increasing biodiversity along Raglan Street is a priority. In response, we are proposing to enhance the ecological value of this area by introducing new understorey planting on the rail corridor side within our street reserve. Where space allows, a small number of additional native trees may also be included. All planting will occur only on land we manage.

This location provides a strong opportunity to improve ecological connectivity by strengthening habitat links along the rail corridor. The proposed planting will increase vegetation cover, support pollinators and small birds, and create more habitat for local fauna. It will also contribute to a cooler, greener, and more attractive streetscape.

People will continue to walk through this area as they do now. The planting design will maintain clear, comfortable pedestrian access.

We’re seeking feedback to understand community support for this approach and to hear from anyone interested in being involved in future planting or stewardship activities.
