This proposal to name unnamed Lane R1599 as Boollam Boollam has been successful with majority support from the community for the proposed name.

Council received suggestions from community members to continue the sea‑themed naming pattern of nearby streets such as Foam Street, Spray Street and Wave Street. The resident who originally raised the submission specifically requested that an Aboriginal name be used. As this request aligned with Council’s commitment to better reflect Traditional Owners in our street names and is consistent with Geographic Names Victoria’s strong encouragement to use local Aboriginal names for new roads, features and localities, Council chose to support the request and adopt a Boonwurrung name. Boollam Boollam was approved by the Boonwurrung Land Council as it holds significance to the area.

This campaign is now closed.

City of Port Phillip has received a place naming application to name Lane R1599 ‘Boollam Boollam Lane’.

Laneway R1599 runs between Glen Huntly Road, Foam St and Wave St, Elwood. Naming this laneway won’t change your usage of the area or the facilities, but it will assist emergency services to save critical minutes when locating incidents, and improve access for visitors and other essential services such as drivers and deliveries.

It is proposed to name unnamed Laneway R1599 as ‘Boollam Boollam’ meaning ‘Butterfly’ in Boonwurrung language. The proposed name has been assessed against The Naming rules for places in Victoria 2022 (The naming rules (land.vic.gov.au) and meets all criteria.
