The City of Port Phillip is undertaking statutory procedures to name unnamed Laneway R3001 as 'Kazzie Lane'. The laneway is located off Cecil St between Coventry St and Dorcas St, South Melbourne.
Renaming this street won’t change your usage of the area or it’s access, but it will assist emergency services to save critical minutes when locating incidents and improve access for visitors and other essential services such as drivers and deliveries.
For nearly a century, the Kastellorizo Association of Victoria (KAV) has been a cornerstone of South Melbourne’s rich multicultural story. Established in 1925, the Kastellorizo Association of Victoria represents a community whose roots in Melbourne stretch back even further —when the first Kastellorizians, affectionately known as 'Kazzies' arrived in the early 1900s.
Many of these early settlers found opportunity through hard work and entrepreneurship, establishing cafes and green grocers along Clarendon Street as early as World War I. Their presence, some still to this day, have helped shape the vibrant commercial and cultural life of the area.
In 1967, after decades of renting in Lonsdale Street, the Association purchased their own permanent home at 248–250 Dorcas Street, where it continues to thrive today.
The Kastellorizo Association of Victoria will celebrate its 100th anniversary in November 2025.
