The City of Port Phillip is undertaking statutory procedures to name unnamed Laneway R3427 as 'Geyer Lane' commemorating local Australian artist Renee Geyer who lived and worked in St Kilda for most of her career.
This naming is required to provide sufficient identification for visitors and emergency services. Renaming this lane won’t change your usage of the area or it’s access, but it will assist emergency services to save critical minutes when locating incidents and improve access for visitors and other essential services.
Renee Geyer was a distinguished and long-standing resident of St Kilda, whose contributions to the local music and arts community were both significant and enduring. Her acclaimed performances at the St Kilda Memorial Hall (MEMO), located adjacent to Lane R3427, earned her widespread recognition and admiration. Laneway R3427 has been selected to honour her legacy as it connects two of her favourite places - MEMO and the Galleon Café on Carlisle Street, where she was a regular.
Renowned for her exceptional vocal talent and commanding stage presence, Renee Geyer’s concerts were hallmark events on the St Kilda arts calendar, consistently drawing huge audiences. One of her most memorable performances was at the 2021 Sight & Sound Festival, live on the public stage set up on Albert St, St Kilda.
The proposed name ‘Geyer Lane’ has been assessed against The Naming rules for places in Victoria 2022 and meets all criteria. If you would like to provide feedback or ask any questions, please do so by Sunday 14 December 2025.
