The City of Port Phillip is undertaking statutory procedures to name unnamed
Laneway R3963 as 'Wasowski Lane'. The laneway runs between Canterbury Rd and Loch St, St Kilda West. This naming is required to provide sufficient identification for visitors and emergency services.
Vera Wasowski lived an extraordinarily sad life as young girl in Poland before going on to study journalism at Warsaw University and throwing herself into the bohemian scene. In 1958, Vera migrated to Australia with her husband and young son. Here she would carve out an adventurous career as an ABC TV researcher and producer on pioneering programs such as This Day Tonight. It was a wild time for politics and the media, and Vera was at the centre of it all, mixing with the Hawkes in the 1980s, and forming a close friendship with local artist Mirka Mora.
Vera Wasowski lived at 31 Loch Street, St Kilda West for 30 years.
The home looks directly out to Lane 3963.
