About the project
Why are we naming the roads?
We are naming the two roads to improve location accuracy for emergency services, tenants and visitors. In 2017 the entry into the Elwood Foreshore carpark was named 'Elwood Foreshore Road'. However, Emergency Services have identified that they have found this confusing and they have had difficulties locating emergencies in the area. They have requested that all internal roads are assigned unique names to distinguish them from the locality name 'Elwood Foreshore'.
How will this impact my use of the area?
It won’t affect your access to the foreshore or the way you use its facilities. It will however improve access for emergency services and other essential services.
How will this impact me or my business?
Addresses of onsite facilities may change. In an effort to minimise any inconvenience, most of the administration regarding contacting utilities and government authorities will be done by Council on your behalf. Council will ensure all authorized mapping systems are updated. By doing so, all utility and service companies will be contacted and changes made accordingly. Businesses will need to update their contacts of the new address once established, most of this can be done online or via phone.
What names will be used?
The roads will be named using Indigenous language and relevant street signage will be erected once names have been decided upon. Geographic Names Victoria (GNV) have asked naming authorities to prioritise the use of Traditional Owner language. Council worked with The Bunurong Land Council (BLC) who provided the list of names you can vote from.
How will the roads be named?
The naming of the roads will be decided by a public voting poll. A 30 day Community Engagement and Public Notice advertising campaign will be carried out where stakeholders and community members will be notified of the proposal and invited to vote for their preferred names. Physical flyers with QR codes will also be placed at the location for the wider public to participate.
When will this happen?
The community engagement campaign will run from Friday 9 August to 13 September 2024. The two most popular names voted by the Community will be selected. When a decision has been finalised, you will be contacted directly (if you provided your email) or keep checking Council’s Have Your Say page.
How can I find out how my feedback has been used?
If you provided an email address with your feedback, you will be notified directly. Otherwise, you can view the outcome via this page.
Do I have to respond?
You do not need to respond if you have no feedback on this proposal. If you would like more information or you would like to provide feedback, please complete the voting survey.
