Thanks for helping shape the design of a new playground at St Vincent Gardens.
We have used your feedback to revise the concept plan and continue to work closely with Heritage Victoria. We are committed to continuing the community engagement process and will keep you updated when more information is available.
COVID-19 has impacted Council’s ability to progress this project further in the short term. The project has now been postposed until the 2022/2023 financial year in the draft Council Plan. You can find more information and provide your feedback on the Draft Council Plan 2021-31 and draft Budget 2021/22 until 23 May at https://haveyoursay.portphillip.vic.gov.au/shape-our-city.
What's happened so far?
We’re upgrading the playground at St Vincent Gardens as part of our playground renewal programme.
In June 2019, we asked the community how they used the park and for ideas to improve it. From those ideas, we developed a draft concept plan and asked the community to share their feedback on the draft plan during September.
St Vincent Gardens is of national significance and is on the Victorian Heritage Register. Any works to the gardens outside of general repairs, maintenance and tree management require a permit under the Heritage Act 2017. In addition to the community consultation with the public, we have also engaged with Heritage Victoria to provide preliminary advice on the concept design, prior to a formal permit application being sought.
Their initial feedback indicates some redesign work is needed to meet their permit requirements.
