What Council will deliver

While the masterplan design was handed to us with a clear vision, we’ve been adding thoughtful layers through detailed design, especially in planting and interpretation.

These new layers will transform the landscape with rich textures, diverse plantings, and stories that connect people to place. What was once a simple grassed median along Kerferd Road will become a vibrant series of green spaces - welcoming pockets for people and habitat for wildlife. The design for the Kerferd Rd Pier forecourt includes new feature paving, sculpture, seating, coastal trees and planting will celebrate the end of the Yani Barripbarripuyt journey, arriving at the sea, and creating a place for everyone to enjoy.

Through this project, we’re creating places of delight, reflection, and connection. It’s about celebrating culture, and building a landscape that grows in meaning and biodiversity over time - for humans and non-humans alike.

Please note: the final scope may be subject to change through the tender process.

Interpretation Works:

Council is leading the interpretation design for the entire Yani Barripbarripuyt journey, guided by the overarching theme of ‘Aboriginal Country’, selected by the community during the development of DEECA’s masterplan.

We’re privileged to be working closely with the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) and our design team, to develop story panels, artworks, culturally significant planting, and the reintroduction of Boonwurrung language - that will be interwoven through the open space design. Other local stories will also be shared, based on themes identified in DEECA’s masterplan, including community favourites like the invention of Vegemite right here on Kerferd Road.
