What is the plan for Carlisle Street?

We're working on a new streetscape plan to make Carlisle Street look and feel better for everyone. Here’s what we’re focusing on:

  • Making the areas where streets meet nicer, especially around Coles/Woolworths, and thinking about how we could redevelop those spots.
  • Improving the pavement so it easier to walk on.
  • Adding street furniture like benches and tables.
  • Planting more trees and flowers, especially choosing the right kinds for our area.
  • Using smart designs to manage rainwater and keep our environment clean.
  • Making it easier for everyone to move around, whether walking, biking, or driving.
  • Improving the lighting so it’s safer and more inviting at night.

We also want to improve two public spaces: the one near the Town Hall and the area behind the St Kilda Library. Our goal is to make these places better for everyone, creating a lively community where people feel happy and connected.

Right now, we’re in the first phase of the project, which is all about hearing from you. We want to know what’s important to you, your ideas, hopes, and any problems you see on Carlisle Street.

Your feedback will help us shape the plan, we want to hear from you. Together, we can make Carlisle Street a better place for everyone!

You can share your thoughts on the Carlisle Street Streetscape Plan in a range of ways before Sunday 11:59pm 15 June.

The streetscape plan will address the following objectives:

  • Create a plan for Carlisle Street that shows how to upgrade things like the materials used, furniture, lighting, plants, and services, so the street becomes safer, more accessible, eco-friendly, and welcoming for everyone.
  • Find and highlight what makes Carlisle Street unique and special to help people understand its character.
  • Describe what we want Carlisle Street and the nearby public areas to look and feel like in the future, so we can work better with developers when they build new things.
  • Choose a set of materials and furniture for the street that reflect its character and make the whole area look consistent and attractive.
  • Make initial design ideas for improving the open spaces near St Kilda Town Hall and St Kilda Library to make these areas more lively and encourage people to use them.
