Background

Our libraries play a vital and valued role in shaping the cultural and social character of our City.

We know that libraries in Port Phillip are well loved and well used. Our five library branches, online services and outreach programs reach more than 55,000 people. And we have one of the highest library membership rates in Victoria.

The Library Action Plan aims to ensure libraries continue to support our community as hubs for creativity, knowledge and connectivity.

Our community comes first. The Plan will allow our libraries to respond to current and future community needs for spaces and services, programming, collections, resources and emerging technology. It will help to better inform and direct service development and delivery for the next five years.

From May to October 2019 we asked the community to provide their ideas about how our libraries could do more to help them. Based on this feedback developed a Library Action Plan (the draft Plan) which reflects what we heard from the community. Following this, we asked the community for feedback on the draft plan from February to March 2021.
